It's Jade, the annoying little philosophy student you had in junior year. I don't know if you remember me, but you're the only one I know who might understand what I'm feeling. Honestly, I'm in a crisis. I just finished my first semester, second year. I decided to major in magic. It was against the wishes of my parents, obviously. And like, 5 years ago it would have sent me to the psych ward to say something like that to a student councilor.
Jerry decided to email his sister. He didn't really email things regularly. He didn't talk to people over email. It wasn't necessary. But today, his mother told him to be nice and send a thoughtful message. He was a slow typist, despite his job and had to look up at the screen every few keystrokes. He worked in cyber security for a local server warehouse. He had to leave for his afternoon shift soon, so he kept it short.
"Dear Sarah, I'm really happy for you. I hope you (don't take the bus)."...
I took my seat on the patio of my regular cafe. The chairs were a wicker-weaved metal frame bleached by continued exposure to the summer sun. The armrests rubbed down by the frequency of patrons. The table was a milky glass with a plastic flower set up in the middle. The flower never used to be white. It was bleached from its original yellow from years of sunlight. Nobody minded the white flower enough to get a new one. It was fine the way it was.

"Earth's Veil: A Mind-bending Sci-Fi Thriller" by J.F. Bloomfield is the wildest book I have read this year! There are too many words to describe how this book made me feel. It was one of those books that you pick up and are on the edge of your seat with anxiety over what is going to happen next. After an apocolyptic event, the main character, Will Ritter, starts off on a trek to find his wife, Rachel, in Florida. But quickly the plot thickens as he discovers that things are happening to change people into physical and mental anomalies. Bloomfield is an amazing writer with terrifying depth of insight into the human psyche. This book will take you to the brink of madness and back again. The tenacity of Will to see this through to the end no matter the outcome is also inspiring. I'm not sure if I could live in that world, but it was a thrilling read.

Wow, this was a totally different read than I am used to, but it didn't disappoint. This crazy story is a mix of just that: crazy, gross, mind-boggling, hopeful and scary all mixed into a fantastical adventure for the main character Will. What starts off as a trek to not only survive a bomb-ravaged world but also find his wife, leads readers on a journey that messes with your mind and throws you for a loop just when you think you may have an idea of what's happening. Others mentioned the grocery store scene being crazy, but I think the dinner scene was even more so. Reality, dreams, delusions, hallucinations and tough choices all collide to create a story that nobody would ever believe but for Will has lived every second of it. The internal battle of whether or not his wife Rachel is still alive and if everything he does is really going to reunite them has you hoping for the best but fearing for the worst. Two weeks and thousands of miles from Canada to Florida is a long time and way to find the answer. Overall, I enjoyed reading this twisted tale of survival and Will's perseverance to see it through to the end.

This was a wild ride of a story. Mind-bending is exactly right. From the start you are on the edge of your seat and with each new situation you are drawn a bit more into the madness of it all.
For a debut novel it was really well done and I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
